Her talent wasn't wasted: she gave us a wealth of songs that have become, and always will be, classics. The tragedy is that she suffered an eating disorder which wasn't fully understood in her time on earth.
Nowadays the condition is fully recognised and treatable as a psychiactric problem, hence the rebellion against the "Size Zero" concept in the world of modelling.
Karen sang like an angel and now she's amongst them. May God rest her soul in Heaven.

Hi!
I am so sorry I missed this!!!
I'll have to see if it is being shown on ITV2 again.
You are so right - a TOTAL waste of a life.
She was so troubled wasn't she? I can still remember the morning she died - it was on the news in my car as I was on my way to work, and I spent the whole day in a complete daze. I can even remember the weather - it was a really miserable, drizzly day -how poignant.
I'm not surprised at all to hear that you shed a tear or two for her.
My Carpenters cds are some of my most treasured possessions.
The fact that my kids also like most of the Carpenters songs is testament to their unrivalled talent.

One of two of the greatest female singing voices ever. The other being Barbara Steisand. I'm on about clarity and purity here folks!
However, as regards Karen, yes, a life wasted.
But the same goes with Karen Carpenter as goes with Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Keith Moon, and many many others.
It's the same thing, 'Superstardom' will kill you if you not ready for it. Or the drugs or the lifestyle, or drink, or one of many others!
She was more of a 'victim' of stardom. As were the others.
Wether self-inflicted or accidental, it's one of the pitfalls.

She isn't the only one - James Morrison, Janice Joplin, Elvis Presley, River Phoenix, Kirk Curbain - the list goes on. Lives wasted by excesses of drink and drugs and mental disorders - happens to normal people every day - very sad.

i thought Karen Carpenter had one of the best female vocals around not just her singing but when she sang you believed her and her actions went all the way to making the song stand for something.
I have seen that film and yes it is so tragic that she was never quiet happy within herself unyet outside she was beautiful.
I have most of their music and enjoy listening when I want to just relax and read her voice is haunting.

IS it sad to die too young, same as lots of famous people die young. She was only 32 years old when she die from heart failure due anorexia. I'm the same age same her but I'm be 33 years this years and she was be in her 50s this year. what a waste of life to be young to die and not be live to full of dream to the day!

Sunshine's right - angelic, pure. Amazing women. A waste of life. What else can you say......
32 years old - such a talent again destroyed by illness.

Slightly wasted and definately shortened. She had the voice of an angel.
It's all too tragic when we lose someone as talented as her before their time.

No, not a life wasted, just sadly shortened. She made the world a nicer place while she was alive, and not many can have that said about them.
