Point system? I know chess but I don't know any poirnt system. Do you mean how many points does each chess piece worth? If so, then:

Pawns: 1 pt.
Bishop & Knight: 3 pt.
Rook: 5 pt.
Queen: 9 pt.
King: Undefined

In ascending order of rank:
Pawns = 1 pt.
Bishop + Knight = 3 pts.
Rook/Castle = 5 pts.
Queen = 9 pts.

When all is said and done, the point system is just a bearing to judge, during the process of a game, who is ahead. Regardless, the person "behind" in points can easily win the game.
I would say that the most influencial part of the point system has to do with which pieces--namely the queen and the rooks--which people are not willing to do exchanges with, and can therefore be attacked aggressively by weaker pieces. This is not the case when a bishop threatens a knight or vice versa, because no one gains any apparent disadvantage by executing a trade off.
