Doctor says wait 4 weeks, which I am okay with. Just wondering if anyone didn't wait the full 4-6 weeks, and how did things go? (I had an episiotomy).

I would wait until you went for your 6-week check-up with your Ob-Gyn. I was healed before then, but I wanted to be sure it was okay to proceed with intercourse. Also, women are extremely fertile after the baby is born, so if your Ob-Gyn doesn't suggest birth control, I would mention it to him/her. Getting pregnant again so soon after having your baby is the last thing you want to do. I knew a girl who got pregnant less than two months after she had her baby, and she went into a deep depression. Anyway, when you do have intercourse, take it slow and use some lubrication (when or if you breastfeed, it tends to make you a wee bit dry down there)! Hope this helped!

I waited 5 weeks and 6 days. I went to my doctor that day and he gave me the go ahead. I wish I had waited though. It hurt so bad. I had a very difficult delivery and there was a lot of tearing besides my episiotomy. Even though the doctor said it was fine and we took our time and use lubrication, it hurt so bad I actually cried, and tore some more. Not fun. That experience was so bad that I developed the condition where you tighten up and all sex is painful after that, so I wound up crying every time I tried to have sex for the next year and a half. If I have any more kids I am waiting much longer to resume my activities.

My doctor said 6 weeks...we waited 5. Kinda wish I would've waited until week 6-- I've noticed that I wasn't sewn up correctly...or that I tore something by having sex too early. either way, I have an extra piece of skin that sometimes is pulled during sex.

Since you had an episiotomy and (if) you didn't tear into a million directions...it's probably okay for you to proceed at 4 weeks. I wouldn't push it before that. (Especially since a lot of the answers say the dr.'s had them wait 6 weeks.)

I had an episiotomy with both of mine, my daughter was born butt first feet to head weighin 8 lbs so that was quite a few stiches =) I resumed at 6 weeks with both of mine. Not only do your stiches need to heal, but so does your body. And believe me my husband knew when tht six weeks was up and came home with flowers and that goofy *** look on his face both times. hehe poor guy Give yourself the chance to fully heal and get the ok from you doc. Sometimes the episiotomy heals kinda wierd and leaves a little piece of skin and can be very painful during sex. I found that to be the case with my 2nd and at my 6 wk cheakup he just burned it off like a wart and said it was better that i had waited to have sex.

And also you will be sore of course, so dont expect the 1st few times to be good in anyway =)

I waited until the bleeding stopped. Women are extremely fertile after the baby is born so your chances of pregnancy sky rocket. Wait the 6 weeks and ask to get on birth control. If your nursing, take depo, its safe for you and baby. But with everything that's going on with the newcomer, your husband might have a lot on his mind besides sex.

My doctor said to wait until after my six week check up. I would have waited longer.

I would wait 6 weeks. You still need to heal down there. And it's not real comfortable at first.

NO, I did because I wasn't taking any chances by getting knocked up right after. But I had a c-section. And I had sex after my 6wk check up. It took a toll on our sex life, but we got through it. We pleased each other through oral sex until we could have it the other way. But that was still far and few between when we did. I was too busy with the baby to be worried about sex anyways.

I had a tear, and my doc said 6 weeks. I waited 5 weeks and 4 days. :P It was fine... we took it easy, and nothing hurt.
