Is this a form of mental illness?

I think that depends on whether the person likes and chooses to be reclusive and anti-social. Personally, I don't think that there is anything wrong with being a loner...I'm one myself.

However, it is a big sign of either stress (which is not an illness) or some form of depression (which is an illness). Sometimes both: Stress left untreated can quickly turn into a serious depression. However, the good news is that if it's only a small amount of stress or a mild form of depression, there are a lot of things people can do themselves to help relieve it. (Eg. exercise: It releases endorphins (the bodies feel good chemicals) and can be an instant up lifter. It's one of the best remedies.) You should contact your doctor for other options and more information. (Steer clear of medication if you can though - it can be extremely hard to stop once you start.)

People who become stressed easily are normally what I call "bottlers" - or people who don't express their emotions when they should, but rather bottle it all up inside until the pressure becomes too much and they break down in the form of stress. Depression can often occur due to the sufferer having a low body image or self image, so anything that may improve that persons view of them self - may also help decrease the intensity of what they are feeling. Traumatic events can also cause stress and in cases like these, talking to a counsilor is often very helpful.

Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for.

Peace :)

I dont believe it is a mental problem ,It could be a number of things such as a family history, a traumatic experience, society, because some people experience things that no one could ever imagine.I think stress and depression play an important role as well.

It can be part of your nature. It can be a result of sensitivity. It could be a mental illness. But not necessarily so. Nothing wrong with wanting to be alone.
