I know this isn't the exact answer your looking for but if you can sing and are shy in front of people perhaps work doing voice overs for commercials and such would be a good idea for you to look into. Such as singing called for in commercial advertisements or theme songs for TV shows and that sort of thing.
Other wise perhaps you could get together with friends and have a few drinks and do karaoke till you get used to singing around a group.

Why do you have to sing in front of your class? If it is to get an extra credit then, you need to get a little courage and think positive that you will be able to do it. I'll bet that you sing very pretty but, you lack self confidence in your self, once you conquer your fear it would be easier the second time.

I've always been pretty shy too. But when it comes to music, I'm able to get over it. I just take a deep breath, and start singing, and once I get started, it's easy to keep going. Once you get over the initial fear, it's really not that bad. I am always very quiet, but I also play violin, bass, and sing.

WOW! That sounds exactly like me a while back! I could sing in the shower or something, but in the family car, in front of my friends, anywheres else..you can just forget about it bub! I would say just go for it! Now-a-days, I just forget about what people think about me! Just sing your heart out! Or, you could just picture everybody in their underwear, practice in form of your mirror, get a karaoke box and sing in that in front of people (since; technically, that really wouldn't be you singing), or record yourself on a voice recorder and put it out in front of an audience and see how their reaction is! Well, later, I hope I helped!

i was the same way and let me tell you, when you finally decide to do it, it is the best feeling in the world. i took chorus and you were forced to sing in front of everyone, start by singing in groups, and if that works sing in front of people you love and will be serious and tell you where you need to work on. pshh.. and if that doesn't work, picture the people in women's undies..

First tell them how bad you are, then they won't expect a lot. Then forget what they think and just do it. Most people, like myself, can't even sing Happy Birthday, so you'll do ok.

I would say, just close your eyes and imagine that you are all by yourself and eventually through the song, open them up but dont change the way you are singing.
