Okay,
this is my type of questing cuz i have a 30 GIG iPod Vid. They are a lot of fun. Unfortunately i dont think an 80GIG would really work. Its alot of space, and i have a large number of gigs and not enough music and vidoes to take it all up. (and its only 30GIG) Infact i have 4 movies that are 3 GIGs each and about 4 GIG of music, so all together i have just used about 7GIGs (Give or take a bit more) but i think a 30 GIG would be just fine.
But if your one of those people that doesnt want or doesnt need movies on your hand, then just buy a nano, they are alot more "pocket size" than vidoes. And there is more of a veriety in them.
As far as it being out of date.
If you put a warranty say 6 months after you get it then if its damaged in any way apple will replace it. (i dont think its free, there may be a bit of a cost to it) and the warranty is about 5 years anyways cuz thats about the lifespan of an iPod. SO in the 4th year make sure you have all your music saved somewhere and brake it, you have another iPod that will last you another 5yrs w/ paying that much. (but i will check for you and then maybe[if i am allowed by you] and let you know how long and how much the warranty costs)
BUt as far as the iPod is conserned, get what will serve fit you, and will fullfil your needs of entertainment as far as music and videos are conserned

Best advice i can give

i believe that 80 GB is too much storage. Do you even know 20,000 songs...unless your going to put a lot of songs, movies, and photos on it I believe it is pointless to get the 80 GB. Go for something smaller, maybe a nano...haha

examine the information superhighway for reconditioned 80 gb ipods, I were given very much on ebay for $one hundred thirty.00. for yet another $15.00, I were given a three year extension warrenty from truthful commerce. once you purchase from a fiend, if something is going incorrect, you're stuck with it, or maybe perchance lose a chum.

Don't buy an 80 GB.
It's pointless to have it. 20,000 songs?
I'd stick with the 4 GB or 8 GB.

I have a 4 gig and it is just fine. You do not need 80 gigs. save your money. Lets be realistic, do you really know like 10000 songs thats you actually like? I find myself skipping 70% of the songs on my 1,000 song ipod anyway. save $

Download movies, there should be tons of memory for things like that and afterwords, download seasons of your favorite show, even after that you should be left with enough memory for your songs, and if you have a great "cd collection" get on that as well.

I got an 80gb for a christmas present.

80gb is absurd for anyone who isnt using their ipod for thier job or for anyone who like's music way too much.

80gb is good to have just for the sake of having it. but go with a 30gb as its much cheaper

Sure if you have that much music to download to it...why not....just think you will have a music library all on your ipod.
