Yes, its all about the family what a waste, i paid for my own & wished i had eloped to Bali or Singapore & had a nice holiday romantic ceremony in a nice temple or location & used the rest of the money for a house deposit.

oh yeah! i told my wife i disagree over and over; but she wanted it for this "notion" (what i called delusion) of a happy, memorable day. she waited years to admit it was a waste because she didn't want to piss me off; but, in all actuality it ended up pissing her off more because she kicks her own butt out of regret because she wants that money for things now. i told my friend just to get dressed up, go to the courthouse, and get some nice pictures taken. spend whatever else on a nice vacation which will be more fun and still leave you with cash afterwards! don't buy into that disney-world, cosmo, oprah magazine crap ideal that it sells women on marriage and weddings. it's a business that uses women as suckers! why pay so much for something that is not tanglible? as a women you'll later want that money for a home, kids stuff, retirement plans, trips, or saftey money-trust me, you'll feel more comfortable if you don't spend it!

Probably more people than would admit it. My wedding had a small budget and I don't regret it but it was a lot of work. If I ever have to get married again, I am going to push for even smaller or eloping.

Well, my wedding WAS wonderful, but the smarter thing would have been to spend it on things we needed to set up a household after the wedding. Our parents offered us $8,000 17 years ago if we would just have a simple reception (in the Mormon church, weddings are free). We opted for the reception but didn't have decent furniture in our house for 2 years.

lol - my last wedding cost less than $100, including $50 to the preacher... my first wedding was in the multiple thousands, back in 1974...and yes, I wished - almost immediately - that I hadn't spent that money on stuff that was gone in a night. The big wedding stuff is ok if your family is wealthy and they want to give it to you, but what a terrible waste of money for the folks who are going to struggle afterwards, maybe for years, to pay for it.

I was thinking that way before I got married. We had a courthouse wedding and I am so glad we did. It was my second wedding and the first one was a big lavish affair. It was a waste of money.

Yeah I wish we would have used it for a great honeymoon trip. I think its more romantic to just run away and get married without anyone knowing.
