I know this is my futre, but I just need help deciding what to do in life! I'm still in high school, but at this very point in time I need to decide on what I'm going to do in life. I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from following their dreams , but you might want email Food Network and ask them how their selection process works - I imagine that the initial entries for that show numbers in the 10's or twenty thousands. You'll also notice that very few of the finalists are "spring chickens" (young). They're all , for the most part established themselves at fairly well known or popular restaurants in their particular regions (again, look at their bio's on Food Network)

You also might want to look at the aspect of job satisfaction. Would you feel better about making a great dessert , or finding a job or a home for an unwed mother of two children ??

If your still in high school , believe it or not, you do have time to consider your future. Go to college, get exposed to different things in your studies and make a decision at a later time. Talk to people who are actually doing the jobs you are interested in, and ask them what they wanted to do when they were your age. Very few people end up doing what they thought they would be doing , or , doing what they were originally trained for.

So get rich and famous, then start a social program. Think how much good the late Steve Irwin was able to do for wildlife conservation with the money his shows and movies brought in, and how much more awareness he was able to raise for the Wildlife Warriors because everybody in the world knew the Crocodile Hunter.

You could do something similar -- work on your cooking and presentation skills, but keep yourself active in the social work that calls to you. Eventually you'll be able to use your celebrity for a good cause, and that's what life is all about: not just being famous, but making a difference in the lives of others.

Best of luck!

You could always cook at a hospital or senior center. Or, if you wanna stretch cooking (a lot), you can become a nutritionist or a dietician, or prepare food for Meals on Wheels.

Check out culinary school. I think you need a real degree first. So why not get a degree in communications and then go to culinary school after you get your degree.
