a myth. Dogs bark at almost all other creatures if you let them. Cats don't like the noise, but, if they are introduced correctly, they often become good friends.
One of my daughters has a cat and a dog. They act like they don't like each other, but at night, if she gets up and goes down stairs to check anything, she will find the cat curled up on the dog sleeping, and the dog always wakes up, but doesn't move to keep from disturbing the cat.

Umm strange question. I guess you don't have any animals. I would say myth. A couple of my cats get a long with the dogs and one doesn't. It's a personality thing. But due to instink my dogs will still going chasing after the cats from time to time.

My dog doesnt hate my cat,he's absolutely petrified of it! I think i must have the bravest(or stupidest)cat in the world. My dog is a golden labrador which isn't exactly a small dog but he wont even walk past the cat.My neighbour had a pitbull terrier and even that wouldn't come out the door without first checkin that my cat wasn't around,so yes,i think it is just a myth.

I have many friends who have dogs and cats living under the same roof, playing together. But for most cases, the animals were introduced to each other when they were really little (like a few months old). Amazingly, I was told my friend just a few days ago about how her yorkshire terrier slept together with her 2 kittens when they were little. Nonetheless, it depends on the type of dog (or cat) you have...most likely, a tamed small dog will be better with a cat than a large hunting dog..Many times, raising pets are really backed by common sense. When you feel doubtful, it is safer not to risk it.

actually that is myth. you can raise a dog and cat together and it can be any dog or cat just have to get them small and they will be companions. yep, i have done it before when i was young. most dogs just go after something that runs and then kiling them is how you teach them. that is why you have to teach and i have had some older dogs and cats really like each other after the initial scare is gone.

Dogs don't generally hate cats, but they do like to play chase. This scares the cats. But, they can get used to each other. My dogs will chase my cats when the cats are in the mood for it; otherwise the cats won't run.
A few dogs are more predatory and will hurt a cat if they catch it. The cat is usually faster and gets away, however.

It is a complete myth! They do have instincts in regard to other animals, but i have seen too many dog/cat relationships which are positive to think there is a real 'hate' thing going on.

more a less, some dogs like cats, some dogs don't. Dogs don't kill cats because they hate them they kill them for fun! they never eat them they just play. But it think its a myth.

Myth. I had a dog that thought he was a cat. He was a lasa apso and he ran around with my cats. He'd lie down to sleep and all the cats would cuddle around him.
One day I heard him barking outside. I went to see what he was barking about. One of my cats was having kittens and when another cat came near, he would run the other cat off like he was keeping guard while my cat had kittens.
He loved all the cats and all the cats loved him.
