Long before Katrina...it was a known fact to those who are familiar with NO...that they had one of the most corrupt dept. in the United States. And I thought they had cleaned it up. But since the facts came out about NO 'padding' the stats on how many officers were employed...I guess not.

Not a fair comparison.

NO suffered nearly complete devastation over the whole city, and the storm wiped out the infrastructure of the city. This didn't happen in Florida; the devastation wasn't as widespread, and the city services were left intact.

Don't get me wrong, I think what happened in NO on the part of the people is nothing short of disgusting, but this isn't a fair comparison.

What's amazing is that someone can't tell the difference between the situation in Florida and New Orleans. The people in Florida didn't have to go very far to get what they needed. The people in New Orleans were isolated, cut off from any supplies including water.

The police in New Orleans did not quit, in fact many remained "on duty" without pay when their headquarters were destroyed. They did not "all quit" and they did not "all loot" so your question has no merit.

Isn't it amazing that police forces, like any other human group, are not monolithic?

Isn't it amazing that a percentage of them - anywhere - are susceptible to graft?

Isn't it amazing how people can lump an entire group together on the actions of a few people in the group?

Isn't it amazing how they try to compare apples and oranges?

Ask again if Miami ever gets "wiped out". Or Houston.
