Cell division is the process by which a cell, called the parent cell, divides into two cells, called daughter cells. Cell division is usually a small segment of a larger cell cycle. In meiosis however, a cell is permanently transformed and cannot divide again.
Cell division is the biological basis of life. For simple unicellular organisms such as the Amoeba, one cell division reproduces an entire organism. On a larger scale, cell division can create progeny from multicellular organisms, such as plants that grow from cuttings. But most importantly, cell division enables sexually reproducing organisms to develop from the one-celled zygote, which itself was produced by cell division from gametes. And after growth, cell division allows for continual renewal and repair of the organism.
The primary concern of cell division is the maintenance of the original cell's genome. Before division can occur, the genomic information which is stored in chromosomes must be replicated, and the duplicated genome separated cleanly between cells. A great deal of cellular infrastructure is involved in keeping genomic information consistent between "generations".

Cell division is needed so cells could reproduce and create daughter cells. Think about it: After the creation of a zygote, without cell division, it would all be just a sperm and an egg. Nothing would move any further and that is why humans wouldn't be created. Since mitosis takes place in the zygote with the form of asexual reproduction, things go on and thus we grow to be babies by the end of the 9 m
onths. Without cell division, we wouldn't grow. At all, I mean. Even after our births. Our cells divide every second of our life, which is amazing in ways. The reason it is so amazing, is because cell division allows us to have proper skin (since it reproduces all the time), proper hair, and so many other things which are healthy.
Some people have to face rare diseases which are caused by the lack of cell division. I don't know the name of the particular one, but there is one where the skin cells stop dividing. That causes the skin cells to harden and then the eyes start bleeding because since the cells aren't dividing, they are cutting the eyes. The lips also start bleeding and have problems. This usually is a disease where a person doesn't get to live to adulthood or even get the chance to be a toddler but it exists. The only reason all this happens is the lack of cell division in skin cells which is the only method for cell reproduction!
Many times, we don't notice something this little in our life simply because it is so natural, but cell division can definitely be called extremely important. It allows us to grow and reproduce!

Cell division that includes mitosis makes identical daughter cells.
This is necessary for:
1. asexual reproduction
2. growth - by adding more cells
3. development - by making different structures like flowers
4. repairing damaged tissue
5. replacing worn-out tissue
Cell division that includes meiosis produces daughter cells that have half the original number of chromosomes, the gametes. Gametes are reproductive cells that join during sexual reproduction. This process produces offspring that have variations - not identical to the parents.
