Just a few days ago, Tornadoes hit central florida and caused catosrphopic damage and took lives with that unexpected disaster. But how many Americans are aware of the floods in Indonesia that caused 100,000 people to be displaced from their homes. I hold no cristism for supporting Florida and their victims but the American media, especially the nationalised television channels need to emphasize the devestation accross the globe and not just our nation. Do you agree?

No. American media should cover America. All American media, be it TV, radio, newsprint, covers world events, but do and should cover America first and foremost. This is where the most news happens that can effect us.

Ratings & MONEY.....Generally speaking the media sector is a for profit enterprise, tho they do have public service responsibilities.

They devote more coverage to the things they know will sell through ratings, circulation, etc. People like dirty laundry so they report more on scandal & crime than on "boy scout" type behavior.

Overall the majority of mainstreet Americans only have a passing interest in international events, & primarily only if it affects them!

We live in America and events that happen here effect us more.
So our main focus should be on whats happening in America. I do agree that the media should devote some time to world events. And I don't mean exclusively how many people are getting killed everyday in Iraq.
