Okay...I understand getting the variables on each side, now how do I do this one?

y=mx+b for m

5g + h = g

5g + h - g = g - g

4g + h = 0

4g + h - h = 0 - h

4g = - h

4g/4 = - h/4

g = - h/4

km + 5x = 6y

km + 5x - 5x = 6y - 5x

km = - 6y - 5x

km/k = -6y/k - 5x/k

m = - 6u/k - 5x/k

Generally you want to get all expressions involving the varialbe that you're solving for, on one side of the equal sign, and everything else on the other.
So in the first example you'd subtract 5g from each side and get h = g-5g = -4g then divide by -4 to get the g by itself.
You could also subtract h from each side, and then g from each side (or vice versa) but this would take two steps rather than 1. You'd still get the same answer though.
In the second example yo'ud subtract 5x from each side to get km = 6y - 5x and then divide by k to get the m by itself.
Reember, you want to first get all terms invovling the letter yo'ure soliving for, on one side of the equal sign. (this involves addition or subtraction)
then get the letter by itself. (this involves combining like terms, multiplying, and dividing.)
To solve for m in y = mx + b, you do the same process.
Get the term involving m by itself. To do this, subtract b from each side. Now you ahve
y-b = mx
Next, divide by m
(y-b) / m = x
Try some on your own before you ask again. That's how you will learn it, by doing it.

You need to get all the variables to one side and all the other stuff to the other side. It doesn't matter which you subtract first.

5g + h = g
5g + h - g = 0
4g + h = 0
4g = -h
g = -4/h

Works the same as if you did:
5g + h = g
5g = g - h
5g - g = -h
4g = -h
g = -4/h
--------------
km + 5x = 6y
km = 6y - 5x
m = (6y - 5x)/k

For 5g+h=g, you would subtract 5g first, to get g on one side.
For km+5x=6y, you would subtract 5x first, then subtract k to get m on one side.

it looks like you need a graph. m is the slope of the line which is rise/run. And b is the intercept, which is where is crosses the y axis.
