it's got to be the cards. they lost a lot in terms of pitching but their offence should make up for it. hopefully they pull off a trade before the season to help out carpenter (penny, lieber......)

This is coming from a died-in-the-wool Cardinals fan, all the way down to the tattoo on my right arm. On paper, I have the NL Central this way. Just remember, pitchers & catchers don't report until around the 15th of February. And once April rolls around the Boys of Summer will start putting up or shutting up. We'll just have to wait and see how things sort out 162 games later in September.
1. Cubs
2. Cards
3. Brewers
4. Reds
5. Astros
6. Pirates
If I may, the 2006 Cardinals were God's pay-back for 1985 when we had the Series won, 1987 when we should have won, and 2004 when we were the best team in MLB throughout the year, but didn't show up when it counted. At least I can die a happy man at, hopefully, a very old age.
Raymond M...True students of the game (as apposed to those who are "fans", those who wouldn't know which end of a bat to grab) appreciate your honest assessment of the 'Stros. One correction to a typo: I believe you meant to list the Pirates in 6th place instead of listing the Reds twice. Nonetheless, I'm with 'ya.
Joey...I agree with you on most of your points, except with the aquisition of Marquis. He's stubborn & bull-headed. He's been under the two best pitching coaches on the planet (Mazzone and Duncan -- ignored them both) and he still believes after all this time he can muscle-up with a 94 mph sinker that doesn't sink at that speed (86 - 89 is the optimum speed) or lob a dead-fish curve that only stops spinning on a flat plane through the strike zone until the moment of impact when the opposing hitter re-directs it on a trajectory that will end up 400+ feet away in the bleachers. Post this warning to the property owners on the opposite side of Waveland Ave.: Visit your friendly neighborhood Lowe's or Home Depot now and stock up on extra window panes. They're gonna need them by the time Marquis' 3-year contract expires.
My right arm, the one with the Cardinal tattoo, just dropped to the floor. So please excuse me while I type this with my non-dominant left hand: The Cubs appear to be the cream-of-the crop in the NL Central. Joey, c'mon down to St. Louis this summer and wear your Cubs jersey and cap. I'll be easy to spot because I'll be the guy dressed in red. We'll sit in the left field bleachers at Busch where I'll buy you an ice-cold, frosty Budweiser and we'll toast to the hope that you can look back on 2007 as the year that you, too, could die at a ripe old age a happy man. It may, just may, be your year!

The Brewers will barely beat out the Astros for the NL Central. They are the most improved team in the NL Central finishing only 8 ½ back last year. The Cardinals will be plagued by numerous injuries and shady pitching.
1. Brewers
2. Astros
3. Cardinals
4. Cubs
5. Reds
6. Pirates

Yeah the Brewers could be surprising this year, but their lineup may not be strong enough to reach the playoffs.
Also, how can you say that the Cubs can't surprise people? Their lineup will continue to get better with the return of Derek Lee and the addition of Soriano. Also Lou Pinella is a much better manager then Baker. All they may need is some relif pitching and one more starter that can stay healthy.
The best pick is the Cards because they return mostly the same team that won it all last year.

2. Astros
3. Brewers
4. Cubs

Both the Bucs and the Cubs suck. Isn't it amazing that the 2 worst teams in all of baseball...HAVE THE SAME LETTERS!
However, you have to admit - it IS 2007, and the Cubs won a series in 1907...so, win a championship every 100 years?
Meaning they'll not only win the 2007 World Series but also 2008?
Ha ha....doubt it.
I have no idea who will take the Central.

I would love for the Cubs to run away with the division, but I think it will come down to the Astros and Cards again. I think the Astros do it this year, but I think the Reds will scare people early.

Alright one you cant report anyone for answering your question right. And it will be the Cubs. The Cubs now have Lou Piniella one of the best managers in baseball, they resigned Aramis, they signed Lily and Marquis, Prior is fully healed from injuries so he will be great. Aramis and Lee will have All Star seasons, and Alfonso Soriano will be the MVP. Zambrano and Prior are clearly the two best pitchers in the MLB. GO CUBBIES!!!!!!!!

I have done research on the Brewers, and I can say that the Brewers should be the favorite to win the NL Central.
It wont even be close. That is how good the Brewers are.
