You have statistics to back that up? if its true probably because you must commit less time to a poem than you would to a story or a book.

Prose is writing distinguished from poetry by its greater variety of rhythm and its closer resemblance to the patterns of everyday speech
The word prose comes from the Latin prosa, meaning straightforward. This describes the type of writing that prose embodies, unadorned with obvious stylistic devices. Prose writing is usually adopted for the description of facts or the discussion of whatever one's thoughts are, incorporated in free flowing speech. Thus, it may be used for newspapers, capers, magazines, encyclopedias, broadcast media, films, letters, debtor's notes, famous quotes, murder mystery, history, philosophy, biography, linguistic geography and many other forms of media along with rants on thoughts. It just depends on the school in which one was taught.

Well they used to say that poetry flows, it is like swirling and dancing but prose is like rigid walking.

Historically poetry was for the higher classes and prose for the masses.

But I geuss it's just more appealing and you can express yourself better throught it and it is also perfect for describing things plus it's more romantic. While prose functions more as a means for criticizing.

I think poetry just flows from one's heart and doesn't require a lot of thought. It's more of an emotional expression. Prose requires more thought and skill. But that's just my opinion.

Poems are quite esay to write as the only thing they need is rhyme. Everyone can find a rhyme. The worst ever poem would have a rhyme( thats why it is poem, after all!!) .

Writing a prose is much more difficult as you must have good writing skills. Elsewhere, it would be impossible to be read. There no rhymes, just your fantasy to couple words.
