In very cold temps, my accelerator sticks while driving on the highway... it just freezes in place. If I take my car out of gear, the engine just continues reving.. what could be causing this, and what is the solution?

You didn't say what kind of car which is a very important detail. That being said, it's likely a sticking choke or throttle which might be corrected with a carburetor spray. The other thing it might be is the accelerator cable..... best I can do with the limited info given.

look to be sure cable has good rubber cover over it no moisture leaking inside. Try taking WD 40 (one brand) and spraying all moving parts of linkages try to displace any moisture you have in thiose tight metal connection points. It sounds like you have some moisture inside the throttle cable to me,

depending on what type of vehicle you drive. either the linkage needs lubricated or if it's a cable type you may have to replace it, take care, this could be a dangerous vehicle if you don't get it fixed soon

i don't know what type of car you have but my step brother had a a car and the retuen spring was wore out and one day it broke and he crashed his car
