It is a protective barier between the elements and your clear coat on your paint.Highly recommend that any car/truck/van etc be waxed at least 2x per year.As a former car wash manager I know how well waxing works as compare to not waxing.

#1 when you run your car through an automatic car wash it really doesn't get it clean like hand washing it and then you are paying for wax that really is going on over a layer of thin dirt so it's really not doing any good at all, if you hand wash it in the manual bays your car is clean and then the spray wax works pretty good especially if you also shammy it off.

I just read somewhere that with the advances in paint and clear coat technology that waxing adds a negligible amount of protection and isn't really worth paying for.

I don't really know, but how good is "wax" in a drive thru car wash? Think about it. Wax should be applied to a clean dry car. Don't you think so?
