Believe me I have had my far share of toothaches and found if you put a dab of toothpaste in the tooth that hurts it will take the pain away in most cases. If I were you, I would swish salt water in your mouth several times a day until you can get to the dentist(your tooth might be infected).

A warm washrag on the side of your cheek works well. Also, orajel to numb it for awhile. A good idea is to call your dr. Even though you need a dentist to take care of it, if you are having pain, you can see your family dr and they can prescribe a pain killer. You don't have to have a dentist to get a prescription to handle the pain.

Get a flannel or small towel and soak it in very very hot water as hot as you can take then wring out as much as possible and place on your cheek . Keep it there and as it cools down put it in the microwave for a few seconds.
The other thing you could try is any teething gel.

Pure vanilla extract will help numb the area. The other thing, if you have a cavity or opening, crush an infant asprin and pack it in there, it will help the blood thin behind it, which helps swelling go down and relieves pain. It tastes crappy and can burn a little when you do it, but it does help.

a few things you could do depending on what works best is
1. soak a tea bag in warm/hot water and gently bite down on it. It will help with any throbbing.
2. in a plastic bag(not ziplock) sandwich back place crushed ice in it and bite gently down on that
along with doing that get some maximum strength orajel. Breastfeeding moms can use that product in moderation

Cool water, if that doesn't make it worse. Hold the water in your mouth for a while.
OR
Any orajel should be okay to use.
Brush frequently and don't eat anything sweet.
