Well for one when you move into an empty apartments, well first check see what comes with it. Some come with appliances and some don't. So it does have you probably need a table with chairs for the kitchen, Maybe a couch and stand, a bed and mattress, maybe and odd and ends for cleaning, food, and stuff that you will need to have all the neccessites. But go slow and think before you buy. ALos if you have a good budget and can afford it go to a place that rents stuff and get everything you need.

If you have no furniture, go to a second hand store, or a Volunteers of Amareica store or the like, and get some basic things. Bed. Table & at least two chairs, and some places for you and a few friends to sit and relax. Some dishes to eat off of, a few pots to cook with. That's the bare minimum.
Rent-to-own places are for suckers. You will end up paying MORE than you would buying the things outright, new. You can get by with second-hand things for a shockingly tiny amount of money...then you'll be able to save your money, and take your time picking out items you really like, and find that you want, after having the experience of living in your own apartment.

If your apartment is empty start thinking first about a bed and linens, table and chair, and at least one lamp. Depending on your budget, buy things or solicit relatives and friends for anything they can part with to fill up your space. Bath and kitchen towels, dishes, and eating utensils are essential. A basic tool set, cleaning supplies such as a bucket, broom, dustpan and various cleansers are important as are personal hygiene items like soap, toothpaste and shampoo. A microwave and electric fry pan will come in handy, especially if you can't cook or there is no stove. An alarm clock, TV, radio, computer, step stool, toilet brush, curtains or blinds, throw rugs, and decorative items are things to think about getting as well. Good luck. Don't worry if it seems like a lot because one day you'll have so much stuff you'll be anxious to get rid of it all.

Bed, something to sit on, something to cook with and eat off of, something that'll play music....everything else is just gravy!
