Did World Wide Web really helped in reducing global poverty?

Yes. You know how Americans always complain about jobs moving to China? The flip side of that is that hundreds of millions of Chinese and people in other third world countries have had the opportunity to get productive jobs and, though low paid by our standards, have been lifted out of the poverty that was their previous life.

Now the WWW didn't cause all of that to happen, but the Internet (to take a more general term) certainly helped make it possible for Western companies to establish and manage far flung operations in those countries.
