If you have your own well you can get it tested for bacteria or chemicals,contact your local health department. If you have municipal water it is safe and is treated. When there is a problem they tell you to boil it. When it comes into the water facility it is filtered sometimes aerated treated with chlorine to kill germs and pumped through the pipes. It is tested several times daily. sometimes fluoride is added to prevent tooth decay.

If there is any doubt use 2 table spoons of Clorox in a half galleon water. This is almost too strong to drink. Strain it ,paper filters do a good job . Now bring it to a boil for 5 min. Let stand instill cool. It should taste good as most of the chlorine has flashed off . All the bacteria has been killed and filtered out.

Water isn't safe, but we live in an unsafe envoirment all the time, the world isn't safe, but we live with it and survive...as long as you can swim well water shouldn't be that much of a problem most of the time if that's what your talking about...
