Im buying a new computer and will be wiping my old computer clean after transferring favorites information to the new computer system. Can an average geek do this themselves?

Hi
Well you can either put the old drive into the new puter (and set as a slave drive ) while you transfer that way or try a Sumvision USB Data Cable .. If you're from the UK follow the URL below :) hope this helps !

Why not just add the harddrive on as a secondary data drive? Very easy to do. Just plug it in either the IDE connection or SATA. You do have to know what kind of harddrive you have. Then plug both harddrive to the same computer and drag and drop as usual, assuming you are using the same operating systems. This is the easiest way to do it, unless someone else have a better method, and you don't need to buy any extra accessories like an USB/Firewire harddrive enclosure.

A network setup would be my first choice. Barring that, if the old computer has USB support, you can transfer files with a USB drive. I just bought a 1GB USB drive at Staples for $15 yesterday. You can move a lot of files with 1GB.
