I have a 2000 Ford Contour with 170,000 miles on it. I couldn't start it this morning but it was working fine yesterday. It's really cold outside today, I'm in Minneapolis. Anyone have advice?

Unless you've already changed it, your battery is 7 years old (most don't last over 5) and the cold just finished it off. So go get yourself a new one.

You probably have more problems than just cold weather. One thing I've found out over the years is that if you take care of your vehicle, your vehicle will take care of you.

170K miles, huh? The car is 7 year old, when was the battery last replaced with a new one? What about a tune up? Have you ever replaced the spark plug wires?

170K miles, huh? When was the last time you had your fuel injectors cleaned or serviced? Use an in-tank cleaner? When was the air filter last changed?

170K miles, huh? Ever have the coolant changed or the system flushed? 7 years is a long time you know?

Those are just some of the things I'd wonder about a 7 year old vehicle that won't start. And that's just air, fuel, spark, and temp. Haven't gotten into oil, tranny, ect.

The car might just be dead.

I used to bring my battery inside to keep it from freezing. also put a good blanket over the engine to keep the oil a bit warmer and lastly, keep a drop light inside the engine compartment for an hour or so, the little heat from the light will keep things warm also.

You didn't give any specific details but it's probably a dead battery which is common in very cold weather. Try to jump start it

Best I can do without details..

Keep the oil changed. Keep a good, strong battery in it. Install a heater in the coolant line and your crankcase.

my guess is dead battery or your gas line froze. Don't let your gas tank get below halfway with out a bottle of heat in your tank. good luck
