Here are the top 4 options that come to mind. If you want to make a copy of your computer the WAY IT IS right now - with all of your files intact, you can use options 3 & 4 in this list.
Also, you really should keep COPIES on a CD, thumb drive or 2nd hard drive of personal files.
1)If you bought this computer new, and you do not have restore disks, you may have a restore built into your hard drive. You need to read your paperwork. There are usually key strokes to access this while booting that will make your computer the way it was the day you brought it home. You can also order the CD from the computer company for about $10.
2) You can always buy yourself MS Windows disk (XPs pretty cheap right now on e-bay. and that way you know you can reinstall from scratch.
3) You can use System restore. If your computer has a problem and you caught it within a couple of days - you can RESTORE to before it happened. Restore actually works well if you don't let too much time go by. Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Restore
*4) You can invest in one of the Norton products I actually like - GHOST...... You can GHOST your disk to a second hard drive. The new versions allow to to keep a copy on a thumb drive or even part of the C drive. I have 5 ghosts of my computer on a second hard drive and they have saved me many many times. It is one of the BEST investments you can make in your computer.

Hi there.
You'd need to make a restore cd "BEFORE" it crashes. so when you crash, you can pop in the restore cd to restore your computer to where it was before. Apps you can use are R-Drive or Norton's Ghost (as well as others, but these are what i use).
Hope this helped
