We are both females. I see her about 8 times a year. I've known her for 25 years, but she's been doing this for about 20 years. She has a bad temper, so I've never said "You have been saying that for 20 years & it's not true, so stop saying it !"

I guess that's all she can think of to say. Maybe she knows you have been trying to lose weight, or you have in the past, and she can't think of anything original to say. Or maybe, she is being honest, and she has a bad memory!

If you have known this friend for 25 years, then she knows that weight is an issue with you. Maybe she does think you look good. What is wrong with accepting a compliment. At least she isnt rude and say something nasty. Enjoy your 1 of 8 visit with her and dont sweat the small stuff.

OK, here's what I think. It's one of two things:
1. Clothes can make one look thinner. When you wear certain colors, certain styles, even certain jewelry; you tend to look thinner. She could mean "you look really nice today." The only reason why I think that could be a reason is because I've done that to people. In today's world, "you look really nice" and "you look like you've lost weight" can almost be interchangeable. I know It doesn't make sense. I can't explain it. But, when my mom looks really pretty because of what she's wearing, I subconsciously think she's lost weight. I don't think, "that's a nice shirt." I think, "she must have lost weight." Does that make more sense?
2. Another reason is because she just wants to make you feel good and doesn't know how to. The people who say, "You look like you've lost weight," a lot tend to tell lots of people that. It's their way of complimenting. I'm not really like that, but some people just don't know how to compliment. Who knows, maybe she's trying to fish for a compliment from you.

Why don't you ask her why she thinks you lost weight? That's the only way you will get to the bottom of this is by facing up to it with her.
If something bothered me I would say something about it to the person rather then let it go on. I think you should deal with it and get it off your chest.
If her response is you look so different then take it at face value and take it as a compliment. At least she's not saying to you boy have you gained a lot of weight? Would you like her to say that to you instead? lol
