No. Most new cars still have 'em. What's annoying is that many ashtrays in modern cars are uselessly small! The ashtray in my Alfa is tiny, and really awkward to get at, particularly in 5th gear. As a motorist, I'm going to boil in the fiery pits of hell anyway, so why can't I have a smoke while I'm on my way?

As far as my Ford Focus its true. It has no ashtray. My new F-250 has an ashtray. Since only 21 or 30 % of people smoke now. Depends on what statistic you read. If it costs a buck to add an ashtray to a car. Saves another buck on lighters. And a manufacturer builds 1 million cars. That 2 million bucks in cost cuts. A very few percentage of people really care. I miss the spare change holder in my car

You can get a "Smokers Package", with an ashtray and lighter. Don't put a lighter into any other power outlet, they can't take the heat, and won't pop out on their own. That's asking for a burnt-out car. Also, where the ashtray should be is a non-heat resistant tray instead. It'll melt if you leave your cigarette in it. The real problem is whether the dealer ordered any cars with the smokers package.

Most of the new Toyota's don't come with an ashtray fitted to the dash, just a removable one that looks like a mug with a lid and sits in a cup holder. They also now have "accessory power points" which are cigarette lighter sockets without the lighter.

I don't know about all cars, but the last two I've bought do not have ashtrays. The electrical plug is called a cell phone accessory or something. And they've added more cup holders!
It seems stupid to me, since as unused ashtray can hold other things, like change. Car makers have also added more trays and storage.

I don't know about ALL, but it's a trend that started a few years ago that continues to increase in popularity. "Smoker Packages" are available, though I don't know how commonly available they are - they're availability may be decreasing. What's more, I saw one "smoker package" that consisted on an ashtray that fit into one of the beverage holders, if you call that a real option. Lighters may be available for a long time since the lighter port is now used for electronics, like cell phone chargers.

On alot of cars now the ashtray is an option. The lighter I believe is still put in because people use them to run other things such as radar detectors, dvd players, navigations systems, etc. On some vehicles you can even order extra lighter sockets.

I don't know if all car companies are doing it but I do know that GM ashtrays and lighters are an option. They are not standard equipment. So, in at least some respect he is correct.

Yes it is. Car companies do not want to promoto smoking so they have stopped equipping cars with ashtrays.
