Well that really depends on who you ask but the short answer is yes there is. It's generally refered to as a scimitar as opposed to a sword though. However, it is considered by many purist bellydancers to be not an authentic prop. It's thought of more as an american hollywood invention but is widely practiced in the US by both nightclub style as well as tribal style dancers. You should find plenty of information on-line by googling "scimitar dance"

We don't call it "sword belly dancing," but yes, many belly dancers dance with a sword balanced on their head, chest, hip and sometimes even their ankle! I recommend checking out http://www.shira.net and especially this part of her site: http://www.shira.net/tips2-sword.htm. She has fantastic information about belly dancing in general. If you want to see a belly dancer in person using a sword, try calling up some Middle Eastern, Greek and North African restaurants in your town and asking if they have belly dancers, which nights of the week they perform and if any use swords. One restaurant I danced at in the Bay Area required us to dance with a sword because it was so popular and patrons were disappointed if they didn't see it!

Yes, some belly dancers may use sword (scimitar) in their performance. Those are some great links Cassandra. I'm enjoying watching them. They are very inspiring... and I'm getting some ideas.
