My partner stopped taking the pill on the 18th January this year. Five days later she had a heavier than normal and slightly prolonged period, however after this all returned to normal. Since then we have been actively trying to concieve. About 4 days ago she experienced some very light pink spotting, but this only happened once, however she has also had headaches and is experiencing cramps similar to pre-menstrual ones, but about twice the severity, she is also complaining of aching from the waist down and excessive tiredness. About 4 days ago she took a pregnancy home test, but this was the day BEFORE the spotting, and it came back negative. Is she likely to be pregnant or could this just be the effects of coming off of the pill? How long should we wait before doing another home test? Serious responses pls.

i don't think she is pregnant it is probably her body adjusting to not taking her pill it will all settle down don't worry ...if she doesn't have a period this month then go and see the doctor ...good luck

It's highly unlikely that she is pregnant yet, as in most cases it can take up to 3 months for a woman to be able to concieve after being on the pill (this does depend on the pill). Her body will act slightly differently now that she's off the pill, as it's spent however long with these extra hormones that have just been cut off! You should go to a family planning clinic or your GP, together, have a test done (you'll get results straight away), if it's still negative, talk to the doc about your situation and I'm sure that you'll come away far more informed and at ease about the situation.
Just one little point... your partner wants a baby, when a woman wants a baby the tend to feel and experience things that maybe aren't as notable as she thinks.... it's called hope, not a bad thing but it just shows how much this means to both of you. I wish you all the best with your soon to be new lives.

Hi,
I would be very surprised if your partner has gotten pregnant, as today is only Feb 3, which is exactly 11 days after her period started and it is highly unlikely that she already ovulated. However, I have read in many articles that women are very fertile once they get off birth control pills, therefore I still think you can get pregnant during this cycle, but its quite possible she may be ovulating these days (roughly 14-17 days from the start of her period). I would suggest to buy an ovulation kit from the pharmacy as soon as possible and see if she ovulates and have an intercourse within 24 hours. I wish you best of luck.
Btw, I conceived 17 days after my period began.

It takes about 4 months for the pill to get out of the system. For the first few months off the pill he body will be wacky, because her body is adjusting to not being on the pill. I would say do one test a month and keep trying. When I was trying to conceive my daughter I stopped taking the pill in late June and was pregnant by late August. Good luck

This has happened to me. I felt like I was dying, the pain was so unbearable. However, I was not pregnant. If it has only been since January 18th that you have been trying to conceive, then I do not believe she is pregnant. It takes almost two months for morning sickness to kick in, sometimes 6 weeks. As it has been neither, she is probably having withdrawals from not taking the pill, sort of like what one would get if he stopped drinking pop at the drop of a hat.

Hope this helps!

I had been on the pill for about two years, and then stopped taking it, for personal reasons, and i got incredibly sick, i was throwing up and it was almost like i had an intense flu. My gyno said it was like my body was in withdrawl to a certain extent. I also had incredibly bad pains in my side, but it turns out it was just that my ovaries were ovulating for the first time in two years. Thought that might be a bit helpful.

Sometimes those home pregnancy tests are incorrect as they're not 100% accurate.
I've had a friend who ended up being pregnant even though the tests indicated that she was not.
While spotting, abdominal cramps and excessive fatigue are all symptoms of pregnancy, this does not necessarily mean that she is pregnant.
Your best bet is to make an appointment to see a doctor and find out for sure.

I would give it another month, honestly. after going off the pill things can be a little funky! Not saying she isn't prego, but it sounds like it is cause from not being on the pill. btw, the pill makes your periods a piece of cake (no cramping, light and short).
