Much healthier for BOTH mom and baby.

I am with the others, why not breastfeed (if this is an option; if you are without baby then perhaps donate milk)? Breasts will rapidly stop producing milk if not used, this is why a mother should start breastfeeding immediately and get some help from experienced mothers or midwives to help them out with technique etc. as usually the baby and mother need a little guidance. Formula is really an evil concoction designed to make lots of money. Money money money, that’s what it’s all about. These companies care as much about your baby as soda pop companies care about your teenager. As long as there is no immediate effect, they are safe from liability, but the long term effects are consequential.
Finally, the answer to your question is "sage". Sage will stop lactation and all breastfeeding mothers should avoid sage for this reason. Sage tea is a very effective and natural method for helping the mammary glands to cease to lactate. There are other herbs and foods that do this too, but this is most commonly found and easy to find. Just put some sage leaves and sticks in a cup and add hot water. Let steep for 5 minutes or more, then drink. Easy, and smells and tastes good too.

David look here is what you do
1) they do not make the meds to dry up the milk
2) do not bound the breasts
3)Frozen Cabbage in the bra and it will go away in 2 weeks
4)do not let the shower head hit the breasts because it will make more milk
the reason I know this is because I have had three children so take my advice on this one

Basically, the only thing you can do is not stimulate the breasts. Your milk will come in about 2-3 days after birth. Wear a good fitting bra, do NOT go in the shower with breasts under showerhead (stimulates). Cold packs and ibuprofen hlep with the discomfort.

Breast milk will only be produced after the birth, if the baby is actually fed. So do not give any breast feeding and it will dry up quicker and by itself.

You should NOT bind your breasts to your body as you can get mastitis, which is a painful inflamation of the breast.
Just don't touch them too much. The milk should dry up wuickly when the demand is not there.

David,
Milk will dry up if breast feeding is stopped and the Doctor can give the woman medication for this. It's not a big deal just mention it to you Doctor.

You SHOULD breastfeed.. I'll get that out there.
Now I will get to the answer... in November I lost my son at 18weeks gestation. My milk came in and I *thought* you could still get those pills to stop milk production but they have recently gone off the market. The only solution is to stuff your bra with cabbage (seriously) and use cold packs. You shouldn't express but I pretty much had to just a tiny bit because it was beyond painful.

Lets hope that you are Davids wife...anyhow they dont give meds anymore to dry it up it was unsafe. What I did was bring a tight sports bra to the hospital and put it on right after birth. I kept it on everyday. I never had one drop of milk, it worked for me.

I've heard of people using Benedryl. Keeping the breasts bound tightly to the body also works.

Honey you do what you want. If you don't want to breast feed then don't breast feed...People on this site can be mean. I just don't understand why they just can't answer the question.
But anyway - the best thing to do is but green cabbage in your bra!!!!!
