Grinding may be sexually motivated, but if you consider it sex itself the idea would make you a less than interesting sexual partner. Since the club scene is used mostly for pick ups and hook-ups, it's understandable if dance moves have been reduced to the basics. Plus it's difficult to be graceful when you're plastered.
As for hard-ons, it's time we expected more out of the male population and their control over their bodies. If the smallest amount of stimulation sends them skyrocketing, it's best to leave them where they are.

Of course it's a sexual dance. Most dancing is sexual, but grinding is especially sexual. Any dance with rhythmic, back and forth hip movements is sexual. Anyone who says it isn't sexual doesn't know what sexual is, or they know better and they're trying to convice someone, like their parents, that it's all innocent.
