has been getting a lot of "bad press" recently. Some actually suggest that the "lobster" and other entrees aren't actually what they are advertised to be. Anyone know if this is true?

My daughter has worked for Red Lobster in the food prep area. She says that she never saw anything that would make her want to eat somewhere else. All the food is prepared in a hygienic and rigidly controlled manner.

The only thing wrong with the company is their willingness to put profit before staff satisfaction. They will generally employ people that don't have very much experience, and are willing to work for minimum wage.

Don't forget that all restaurants have to go through rigid inspections, some happening without warning to ensure that shortcomings are not being covered up.

Well, they look like lobsters while they are swimming around in the big tank at the front the store. Fish is pretty hard to fake. I had trout last time, and it sure looked like a trout.

As far as ingredients in soups, sauces, and other dishes, it is possible that Red Lobster, or any other restaurant may decide to use substitute ingredients to insure freshness, consistent quality, or (gasp!) costs.

If Red Lobster uses artificial crab as ingredients for their dishes, then so be it. If you are worried, then ask the server when ordering.

Most of the "bad press" is not true. No place will be always perfect, but as a chain seafood place goes, I love it. Great selections, prices and service.
The "bad press" I have seen is misnaming lobster pieces that are actually prawns. To my knowledge (I asked them) this has been corrected. Same dish...new name.

I work there and I know that they actually use lobster and real crab in their dishes. They actually prep it at the restaurant themselves, it doesn't come packaged. Although lobster and crab comes in frozen they do have the live lobsters if you prefer and also fresh fish items that have never been frozen.

Perhaps this doesn't answer your question, but other than their bread, this establishment is really lacking, and they are overpriced for what you are NOT getting. I had lobster and was horribly disappointed. I'd rather save my money and go to a real seafood restaurant.
