Well, you never know if the expiration date is there because it has really expired, or as a way to get the retailer to purchase more. Canned food can last many decades, as we know from the troops in WWII were eating left over rations from WWI. I use to own a retail store that sold food product, and companies that sell things like jam, which can easily last decades on the shelf suddenly in recent years are putting expiration dates on them to keep product flow going; which really makes us angry because what kid of jam only lasts 6 months? But what it comes down to is liability. If you choose to ignore the expiration date, you are liable. When it comes to babies, I wouldn’t risk it as babies are highly sensitive and die very easily from food poisoning. I will add that I also would never use formula in the first place, I’d rather give my baby breast milk and if that’s not an option head over to the local La Leche League or similar group.

It's only good until the expiration date or must be used within 30 days of opening.

It might be okay, but why risk it. Would you eat something that is past the expiration date?
Some things just aren't worth the risk.

This is why it is called an expiration date.. it tells you not to use it after this date. Would you want to eat or drink something that could make you sick.. no! Think about it.
