i own a shop, and what its doing is not circulating real good that why when your driving it gets better ,your water pump may be getting a little worn out on it ,they have fins on them that wear down as times goes on,and this makes the pump not push the coolant through the engine as fast as it should,,and a clogged heater core will cause this also, you might want to check this or have it checked out,its not a real serious thing right now,but it would feel better i know if it was putting out a better heat, good luck ,i hope this help,s.,,PS also make sure the level of coolant stays filler real good ,when it gets low on coolant it will put out less heat.

First of all...you probably shouldn't RACE the engine until the engine has had a chance to "warm up". Second... what model vehicle is this? Third...It may be normal...unless it "used to" heat up faster...in that case your heater core my be failing. Depending on the make and model of your car...have the cooling system "flushed"...you can do it yourself...go to a good parts store and ask them for the equipment. It should be somewhat "inexpensive".
Good luck.

It's probably your water pump that's about to go because seems like your water circulates sometimes and sometimes it doesn't but it could be that you need to change your coolant, your thermostat might be getting stuck or just maybe you need to flush your system out. SO have it checked or you can do it too. SO ahve a nice day.

Low on coolant. revving the engine circulates the coolant faster.

Partially plugged heater core, same reason.

You car may have a heat valve which shuts off the hot water while you are using the A.C. these get stuck sometimes.

If you switch to vent does it then blow warm air? If so you have a bad vacuum valve in your heating/cooloing system that isn't closing the right duct when it is supposed to. From what you described its more likely you are impatient and can't wait for you car to heat up.

Check your radiator to see if it is full. Add antifreeze/water 50/50 mixture if it is low,

Check your fan belt to see if it is too loose to run water pump,

Tighten if needed
