Lots of difference.
Also, lots of difference between the "different" types of softball!
There is fast-pitch which is similar to baseball, biggest difference there is baserunners don't "lead off" the bases. There are no balks either.
Slow-pitch is played by fat old men who drink lots of beer!, well that is one conception. There are many different types of slow-pitch some is the "beer league" played mainly for fun, but a lot is a very competetive scenario with some excellent atheletes. There is slow-pitch which allows base stealing, and some which doesn't. There is some which allows a few "over the fence" home runs, some none, and some unlimited. Some of the "horses" can really make the ball sail about as far as a MLB dinger!
There is also a modified pitch game, mens fast-pitch, 16" slow-pitch (ball about the size of a small melon), "Mat Ball" (if pitch hits a mat behind the plate it was a strike), and even "special Olympic" softball (for those commonly mis-refered to as handicaped).
There is basically a game for anyone and every skill level. It's a great game!
There also ain't no way a 12 year old is gonna throw a 73 mph fastball! Won't happen, ain't happened, ain't never gonna fly! Jennie Finch, Cat Osterman, and Lisa Fernandez don't throw that hard. They are all older than 12!

One the size of the ball is different and thrown under hand. They pitch from a flat surface on the mound not a raised one like in baseball. The distance between home plate and pitchers mound is shorterin softball I believe its 45 feet baseball is 60 feet 6 inches, the base paths are softball 60 feet and baseball 90 feet.

a softball is bigger and in the game you pitch it underhand. In baseball the ball is smaller and regular baseballs should fit in your hand very nicely so you can change the way the ball will be thrown for instance fastball, curve ball, etc. Also baseballs are thrown overhand and range from 50-100 MPH softballs if thrown directly go from 30-65 MPH

The difference is the balls that are used. Baseballs are smaller and harder than softballs. Softballs are bigger and softer than a baseball. Both of the games are played the same.

ok guys listen up! the ball is not softer in softball the core is just bigger. the games are the same in pretty much all aspects, in softball you pitch underhand, there are 2 diffrent softball games fastpitch and slowpitch, in slow pitch there is no stealing and no dh, you also play with 4 outfielders. in fastpitch the ball is just as fast as baseball and actually harder to catch up with because the pitching mound is at a closer distance from the plate. you can steal and have a dh just like baseball. i
in regards to what was stated above the ball in fastpitch softball is pitched at about 90 max, 12 year olds throw it at 70, i know my little sister throws 73 and she is 12. also in softball you can throw diffrent pitches, curve change up everything.
as a foot note to a comment made... i did not put this in i was assuming that you understood, the 12 year old and 73 is a comparision to where it would be if it was baseball, they have comparison chat since the ball is pitched from so much closer, a 50 mph would equal about a 70 mph in baseball....High 60s, low 70s. They say it's comparable to high 90s, low 100s. that would be about the fastest you will see a fastpitch ball

let's start with the size of the ball. then we can go on to the different size in bats. also the playing field is much smaller in softball. the pitcher throws underhand in softball. the bases are closer in softball. 10 players instead of 9 in softball.

In softball, the ball is bigger and you pitch it underhand.
In baseball, the ball is smaller and you pitch it overhand.
Other than that, not much else.
