go to beinggirl.com for instructions on how to put it in.
I suggest inserting it right after taking a shower.

*I would recommend getting flushable wet wipes, in case of any messes.*
Right after you shower, you should put the tampon in (just follow the directions on the box) and if you get messy then use the wipes... and while in school or out with friends/parents, if you have to changeyour tampon, do it over the toilet.... and carry a little box with the wipes. That's what i do and it's worked for me. And at night time, i recommend using the overnight pads.
And use the plastic applicator tampons, because those card board ones are awful! And use pantiliners if you know you won't be able to change within the set time frame... in case your tampon leaks.

Stay ahead of it. Put one in as you get out of the shower, and keep changing frequently as the other poster said. Sometimes there just is no way to avoid the mess. You learn to deal with it. Plus, as you gain experience, you can expect to fumble a little more and therefore more mess. It will get easier.
With my daughter, I had her just use pads the first two months so she could get a better idea of what her flow was like. Looking back, she appreciates that. Just something to think about.

If you have a heavy flow theres really no way around the mess... You can wipe really well with a wipe or tissue after you remove the used one. But, what I do is keep feminine whipes with me in my purse or near the toilet so that if I do get a bit on my hand I can wipe it off immediately. Make sure you wash your hand before and after you change though... Good luck

Put one in right after a shower and if you keep replacing every 4 to 6 hours there shouldn't be any mess.

If this is your first period, maybe you should try pads instead. They're a lot less traumatic. Once you get the hang on things, then try the tampon.

I don't use tampons. Not sure how, because I'm a guy and you wouldn't like to hear my advice on that either.
