First, make sure you have an internet connection by plugging directly into your cable modem. If that works, make sure the cable from the cable modem is plugged into the WAN or Internet port on your router (instead of one of the LAN ports).
Good Luck!

I do know that setting up new equipment is infuriating, and I am rather jaded having worked in IT support for many years but..... here are my humble suggestions:
1) If the equipment is new, RTFI. That is, as all IT support people will tell you, Read the F****g Instructions.
2) If you bought the kit 2nd hand, or it is stolen, and have no instructions, go to the router manufacturer's website and download the FI.
Oh, and having spent 2 years in the early part of my career on Helpdesks, try telling us the following since we are not all psychic:
A) What make is your router
B) What is your wireless adaptor
C) Do you have evidence that you have a working internet connection.
D) You presumably need a modem upstream of your router. Do you have one, Is it working? If it is a combined rmodem/router Gateway, sre the motem settings configured as per your ISP's instructions - e.g PPP encapsulation settings and all the other nasties.
E) You didn't bother telling us mere punters whether you have a wired or wireless router. Stupid us, we'll just guess from your fractured prose.
Finally, and I don't mean to be rude, but frankly, since you cannot handle punctuation, you are unlikely to be able to handle the internet. In any case, if you do get connected, a hacker will have cleared your bank account at the end of the first week online.
Now learn English and THEN ask clever people questions.
And guess what, anyone who has answered you up to this point is as daft as you.
Thanks
RR

I've just been through two months of this, connection to the router was always good but no Internet. After chasing the provider (plusnet), BT and upgrading the router plus spending money putting in a wired connection rather than using wi-fi... It turned out to be an outside telephone cable. One section was so badly damaged the bare wires could be seen, probably caused by the recent gales. £30 for a rewire outside and all is well now...

Unplug your modem from it's power source for one minute. Connect your modem directly to your portable computer.
If you can't get on the Internet when connected directly to your modem, call your ISP.
If you can get on, disconnect your portable from your modem and reconnect your router.
If you can get a connection with your router now, then you had a problem with your DHCP lease, a common Internet connection issue that can normally be resolved by unplugging your modem. If you still can't get an Internet connection through your router, call the router's manufacturer.
If you're using a Mac notebook with a Linksys router, throw your router in the garbage and go buy an Airport Express Base Station from your nearest Apple store. The firmware on Linksys routers specifically prohibits Macs from getting an IP address wirelessly.

Log on to the admin page on the router (depends on the type of router) and check the IP settings for the interface connected to your ISP. It is also possible to be connected to your router and the IP settings for the connection to your service provider are wrong. Also check the cable connected to the provider may be loose. You can confirm this by observing any changes in the LED display (still depending on the type of router). on the front panel of the router..

the problem should be in the router not in the computer if you can actually connect to the router. you have to put your put your login name and password to the router for the internet. for that you can either use the wizard software that should came with the router or just type routers ip address must be something like (192.168.1.1) in the explorer and in the internet settings out your name and password

you ought to have the means, by both the living house windows OS or by the software which got here consisting of your prompt adapter (or your computer if outfitted-in) to do a experiment for available prompt networks on your section. What you're searching for is a close-by transmitter except yours, so it ought to have a intense signal power like yours must have besides. even as there are channels you could make a call from to set your prompt base, so that you circumvent those conflicts, maximum production unit preset channels favor the middle of the band. even as picking a sparkling channel to set your transmitter to, go with one which has a minimum of a 2 channel separation from the others, if in any respect a threat. party: Your seek for unearths (except yours): Channels a million, 5, 7, 10, and 12 in use... your acceptable determination ought to to set to channel 3. Tip: to locate your prompt base, break free others, both rename the SSID or turn it off even as searching the used channels. you need to be taken aback what number "Linksys" SSIDs there are available b/c human beings do not change it. another issues that ought to intervene, your prompt base makes use of both.4GHz band, if this sounds time-honored it is because this band is likewise used with assistance from maximum cordless phones*, and bluetooth instruments. * Older cordless phones use 900MHz and there are some cutting-edge cordless phones which use 5.1GHz.

Ive had 8 weeks of this nonsense, getting sent back and forth from Tiscali and Belkin (router), each claiming it wasn't their problem, one laptop would be OK then the other would stop working.
A large glass of whisky helped.
