as much as i dislike saying it U2 not my choice but they are still doin' it...i loved the ramones saw them 3 times in one week

Van Halen or The Police. They both had a huge streak of good hits throughout the period.
U2 is very over rated. They have made a bunch of crap since their first 3 albums.

the 80's had so many that it would be hard to choose. my personal fave was journey, but others would say motley crue. it all depends on who you like as to who the best band was.
