Dont worry, starting your period does not make you a woman, but it does mean you are growing, your body is just getting prepared to become a woman. Its too bad that you fee shy about telling your grandma, because she could probably give you some good advice, but if you really dont want to yet, thats ok. But you will need to pick up some supplies. If you just started your period, you may not want to start using tampons right away. If inserted wrong, they could be uncomfortable at first. I started using pads with wings first so it protects your panties during the heavy stage. Once it starts to become light, where there is little blood...switch to a panty liner. It took me a year or 2 to work up to a tampon, but when you do, because you are young, you may like the slender fits better, dont buy any jumbo size.
As for the cramps, take a tylonal or advil or IB profin (1or2) for the pain, and use a hot water bottle or heating pad (most grandparents would have one of these things) on your abdomen to relax tense muscles.
Hope this helps you a little bit. Hopefully you become more comfortable with your grandma soon. Keep in mind that she is a woman too and may figure it out on her own. :)
Also, if your sister is older than you, then she probably has had her period, you should ask her for her help, it could be a bonding experience, she could take you to the store and help you find the right supplies for you. She too may just figure it out on her own as well.

she will see it if she looks at her questions page. Anyways, you should tell your grandma or sister. They can give you some good advice to making it easier next time. Its not embarrising. EVERY girl has one. It doesnt make you diffrent and they wont look at you all grown up because of it. You dont all of a sudden become a women because you started your period.

I FEEL YOU NOW, I HATED TELLING MY MOTHER, BUT AFTER A WHILE THEY ARE GONNA SUSPECT THAT YOU HAVE ONE ONCE YOU GET OLDER AND NEVER ASK FOR ANY PADS OR TAMPONS.
MY ADVICE IS TO SAVE YOUR MONEY BUY THEM YOURSELF AND JUST KEEP THEM IN YOUR ROOM
JUST ASK THEM FOR MONEY FOR 'HYGEN STUFF' AND THEN JUST BUY THEM ALONG WITH DEODERANT, SOAP, RAGS, AND RAZORS ETC. SO THEY WON'T REALIZE THAT YOU ALSO GOT TAMPONS/FEMINE NAPKINS.
IF THERE IS ANYONE ELSE THAT KNOWS, ASK IF YOU CAN GET SOME FROM THEM, AND JUST HAVE THEM SAY THAT THEIR FRIEND NEEDS SOME BECUZ THEY AREN'T READY TO TELL THEIR GRANDPARENTS.
HEALTH TEACHER...WRITE A NOTE OR SOMETHING
AND YOU CAN GO TO THIS WEBSITE
HTTP://WWW.BEINGGIRL.COM
IF ALL ELSE FAILS, YOUR JUST GONNA HAVE TO TAKE THIS MORAL SUPPORT, AND TELL THEM YOURSELF

You should tell your grandmother. Besides, you're not gonna stay a little girl forever. Tell your grandmother, it happens to ALL girls eventually.
