No. Life is comprised of too may factors
to try to figure out while you're living it. Even though
we live it, we don't always understand our feelings or actions, or those of others, or why things work or don't work, or why the weather is beautiful one day and nasty two days later, or why we used to love broccoli and we don't love it now. In the wise and immortal words of
John Lennon... "the more I see, the less I understand"

I believe one can live life and have an understanding of the world they live in....their personal world. I think understanding life means different things to different people. For me, life is about learning from your experiences both good and bad, and trying to use what you've been through to help someone else if you can. I try my best to live each day as it comes and let the past be the past. For others, understanding life may be something huge and insightful. I think everyone has asked the question "What is the meaning of life?" at some point. I really think the answer is different for everyone.

Unsung heros quietly edify and assist those less fortunate in times of their own ( heros ) duress;
Society’s silent villains facing adversity reap the material rewards of life upon accretions of justifications with accolades by the masses in the name of all that is good;
The innocent and hapless stay afloat between the eddies and ebbs of ocean’s tumulus currents, alive without having lived;
Those in pain tend to remain an eternal observer of seas of life slipping away on sands of time. In short:
Worldly people will self proclaim to live the game of life well is to understand it;
Spiritual and otherness will claim to live both games of materiality and spirit, is living and acknowledging whatever its presence is;
Understanding without context of experience beyond the self ( perhaps in alluding to a higher purpose or calling of materialism or spiritualism ) is tantamount to nothing more than self-deception.

Yes, of course. It`s impossible to live without understanding life, it would be plain surviving. The goal of life is to learn something, to feel things around us, and people who can achieve that (in their own ways, according to their abilities) are ones actually living.

Oh I'm sure, though it seems like living life and understanding it would make things more difficult than just living or just understanding, if that makes any sense.

There are always new curves in life, so one can only engage in "the process of understanding" throughout life.

If you can manage to detach yourself from your feelings a bit and don't get lost in everyday turmoil, I guess so.
