Imagine you are an artist and you created a beautiful painting. Many people are interested in buying one but there can only be one original, so you make 100 PRINTS to sell. After the prints are made you assign each with a number from one to 100. When you put your signature on each of the prints you also write the assigned number beginning like this, 1/100, to explain it is the first print of a total of 100. Then each print after that is signed and numbered in the same way using consecutive numbers.

They will put a fraction in the lower left hand corner of the art. Especially in making prints, an artist will write 2/100 meaning that this drawing is the second drawing out of one hundred drawings.
