If we didn't need to sleep...I suppose things would be just as they are now. Perhaps a little less stressful, or a little more...it's an interesting thing to think about...I'm not sure :)

The key words here being "if humans did not need to sleep"...interesting thought to ponder, indeed.
Well, there would be more room on the sleeping pill shelves at the drug stores, for sure. Shopping malls and restaurants would all be open 24 hours, as would movie theaters, skating rinks, concert venues, and daycare, which of course, would no longer be called daycare.
There would be more crime, more car accidents, more extramarital affairs and more babies. Utility bills would be higher, and the sale of light bulbs would skyrocket.

Insanity - much higher rates of murder & suicide. People would burn out trying to be productive 24 hours a day. If nothing else, people need sleep just to get a break from each other. We're social animals, yes, but come on.

people would be ugly as no one can get beauty sleep... people would be cranky... and coffee would be a useless beverage
