It means when you make an animal or thing sound as if it was a person by describing it using things that humans do for example, 'the tree swayed'. This is personification because the tree didn't actually sway, it isn't something that trees do, but it looked like it was swaying. Sorry, it sounds really somplicated but if you read this lots of times, you will get it into your head, i promise! It took me ages to work out what all those words meant.

Personification is giving animals or inanimate objects human-like qualities; like the ability of speech.

ex. In Spongebob Squarepants, animals can't really talk, but they do in the show because of personification.

Personification is when a writer gives human characteristics to a nonhuman thing. For example, if a writer writes:
" The sun smiled on me"
we know a sun cannot really smile but it is a human characteristic given by the writer.

Rainbows have always brought a smile on my face...its a sign of optimism and joy when the sun shines in the horizon after a heavy down pour...i still remember during my school days i used to run towards rainbows trying to find out where exactly it is located and take a closer look at the beauty of nature. For me rainbows will always fill my heart with joy and happiness. Great Question !! TC!

Hi ellie this word is commonly used in poetry.
We use it when some human actions, behaviours or qualities have given to an animal or a non-living thing
For instance: As the dogs ran they 'laughed' loudly.Obviously dogs don't laugh but its human being who does the same action.
