Our youth is aping the western culture. The most powerful weapon is films and T.V.Our models and stars are nowadays skimpily attired to ape them and have totally discarded our modest Indian dress ,the graceful sari. This is creating a wrong impression on our youth and the result we can find in our changing society where our cultural heritage is getting lost. Why be submissive and ape the Westerners? Are they doing the same? No.We should see the other aspect of their culture.Their youngsters are independent and do not believe in parents supporting them all along ,they do not mind working even in motels or any job to support themselves. Are we following that? No. So why copy their bad points and not their good ones?Fashions, food, parties, music, films, life style all are under the infulence of western culture.Where is all this leading our youths ?They will be like "the crow trying to be like the swan". Why not be proud of your own cultural heritage?Mumbai is the biggest example of this and now why cant the Honourable Balasaheb try to control it ?

As is the king so are the subjects is an old saying. The British ruled us for nearly two centuries and their culture and mannerisms naturally caught up with the prople... The result was that men cut their long hairs often kept in a tuft and followed the hairstyle of the whites, gave up the dhotis for pants, started smoking cigarets and so forth... But note that we had not imbibed the many good qualities like punctuality, cleanliness, etc from them...
There was no onesided influence anyway... and the westerners did appreciate and adopt a lot of our talents in arts, literature, etc.
The opening to the science and technology is supposed to have been made by the British rulers - through the railways, elegraphs, etc.. But if the foreigners were not here, one could have expected the natives - who were known for their extraordinary skills in the manufacture of exquisite garments, jewellery, herbal cosmetics, etc and known to have traded far beyond the borders, across the seas - would have themselves developed this far and perhaps beyond... But then it could just be a surmise now, since it was not to be and we were under foreign rule..
The Industrial Revolution that heralded in the late 19th century in the Europe, made the European countries wealthy and made them seek markets for their products and they came and colonised many areas in Asia etc.. Hence the contribution of science and technology did come from them - the colonial rulers... And along with it their culture, mainly from their missionary activites - in education and health primarily - and political ideas that found their way into our society..
If the science and techy introduction was for their trade purposes -Eg., railways to transport the cotton to the sea ports and back as garments from their country to our markets - the missionary activities were there for spreading their religion... It is all now history... The Xian culture had many features very different from ours... just as the Mohamadan culture of earlier centuries had spread in the country... and we had a lot of mix up of cultures...
Their art and architecture apart, their ways of free thinking (positive attribute) and skills in exploitation (negative) also caught up with us...
You may consider all these issues and those in other answers and develop your essay originally, putting your reasoning and analysis to embelish your presentation. Good luck.
