I keep a small cactus plant on my window sill. It gets lots of direct sunlight, but I am not sure how often to water it. My last one rotted when I watered it too much, but I don't want it to dry out either. How much should I water it and how often?

I think a good soaking once every 4 weeks is all it needs. I had a Jade for many years - watered it this way and it died after I found out my roomates girlfriend was watering it like every time she came over - roots rotted away.

The important thing with succulents is not to let them sit in water. Let them dry out, it wont hurt, and when you do water them do it on a sunny day. The will aborb the water when the sun is out and pass the water when there is no sun. I water my cactus once a week on average in the summer and about twice a month in the winter. I hope this helps.

Water these cacti approximately once every 3 months. I have done mine like this for several years and they are doing great. When you do water don't water so much that they are left with their roots soaked for days on end or they will still rot before the water evaporates.

I forget to water mine for weeks at a time, maybe even a month, and it is lasting lots longer than the ones I tried to water every week.

Its been my experience that they are very easy to overwater, but very hard to water too little.
