I can't go out and play until I clean up my room, but it's so messy it would take me a week to finish. I can't hire a house cleaner on my allowance, are you kidding? Even if I could, they would trip on my stuff and sue me.

If I don't fix this problem soon, not only will I miss the fun stuff going on outside, but I'll die from an alergy to dust.!!

If your parent is like me this may get you out playing soon. Get a big trash bag and a laundry basket. Clear your bed. Not one item at a time. Gather all dishes, put them in a pile by the door for now. Throw away trash, put clothing in laundry basket, and dump the rest on the floor for now. Make your bed very neatly. Then pile all the surface stuff ( not the trash or laundry ) off your dresser/desk/etc onto the made bed. Wash the surfaces and put everything back, even the stuff that may not belong there. Then pull all the junk out from under the bed. Just make one big pile first and then sort dishes, laundry, trash and video stuff. To get a break take all the dishes to the kitchen quickly. Put the trash in the trash and the clothing in the laundry basket ( even if its clean at least its all together) Take the trash out to the main trash container and grab 2 boxs or bags. Plan to use whatever toy container you already have and also use one of the bags or boxes you grabbed for media/cds/video stuff/ and just dump everything else but laundry, dishes, trash or homework stuff in it. If you have some stuff you don't want dumped in together lay it on your neatly made bed. By now you should have grouped the homework or books & so on together in piles. Take the trash out. Take the dishes to the kitchen. Put the homework in a backpack or together somewhere. Sweep or vacume the floor. Now you have 3 basic groups. Video stuff/ clothes/ toys. If you made it this far which should take less than an hour if you went at it whole heartedly, you might get a break to play and get to come back and sort thru that laundry. If not then go ahead and divide it up. Dirty clothes in one pile and clean clothes into two piles. One to hang up and one to fold. My kids update me again here and if they have done this much in less than an hour I am impressed. All you really have left is sorting the toys and getting them back where they belong and to put away the clothes properly. This room may not be clean techincaly but finding the floor and the bed being made will make you feel good and your parent take notice. The laundry part is a big visual mess so tackle that routinely. About a year ago I realized my oldest son really wanted to clean his room when I complained about it but really did not know how to start, as it was just overwhelming. We came up with this process and altho I still have to go back over it the worse part is done and I feel like he at least picks up the mess he creates. If the clothes, dishes, trash are where they belong and I can walk a path top the bed and closest I am not pleased but will look the other way. Good Luck.

I use to clean houses for a living and there was nothing more satisfying than taking a messy room and making it look brand new again. Crank up your stereo to some good music and get started. You will be done before you know it. Got any friends, invite them over to help. Once you are done, take a few minutes everyday to put things away and dust once every two weeks and you should be fine. Have fun and don't be mad at your parents for making you clean your room, it will help you in the future.

The only way for it to get done is to get started. Work on one area at a time, taking a break now and then. Sooner or latter it will be completed, and you'll be able to go outside. Once you're done, focus on keeping the room clean. If you do, then you won't be in this predicament again.

divide your room into quadrants. give yourself a certain amount of time (say an hour) to clean up each quad. Give it a lick and a promise -- concentrating on the visible. I bet you could get it clean in 4 hours.
