In most respects, the statement is true. In my opinion, as long as the question is asked with the sole desire to receive an informative answer to learn something constructive, then no question is stupid. If a question is asked for any other reason, then I feel that the question is not worth asking.
As for stupid answers, there are many and the reason for that is that many either don't understand the question or are answering just for the sake of answering, boost the ego or any other reason besides the matter of wholeheartedly trying to answer the question.

Not true at all. The statement itself is something that sounds intelligent on the surface, but turns out to be illogical if you investigate it more deeply.
For example, criticize Bush for being a PRO-WAR draftdodger, and his boytoys will ask, "What about Clinton?" Not only does that answer ignore the evil of hypocrisy, but even if it were relevant, it would still condemn Bush as being as bad as Clinton.
We might call stupid questions Pushy Questions or Distracting Questions, because either they are loaded with a false point, or they take the discussion off on a tangent that will prevent it from ever going anywhere constructive.

There are lots of stupid questions, but most people are stupid so if you ask a stupid question, it's likely that lots of other people in the room were wondering the same thing.

If you don't ask a question because you think it is stupid' you are.
If you ask the question you may learn or be misguided. Then you seek out someone else and ask again. Then apply logic to arrive at what the truth maybe. Without the Questions we would never have the answer. Why is the sky blue is a child's question. Had it never been asked by anyone we wouldn't know.

If one truly wants to know, there are no stupid questions. Stupid answers come from those who don't know the answers and just mouth off. Example: Politicians.

Stupid, The inability to learn. Dumb, the unlearned. Asking a question or giving an answer implies a willingness to learn and therefore, by difinition is not stupid or dumb, rather it is a sign of intelligence and wisdom.
