My father passed away some many years ago, but I could never bring myself to go thru his things.

Last week, I finally got to one of his filing cabinettes. I was shocked at what I found! I knew he was in the Navy, and I new he was at Iwo Jima. But I was completely taken back when I found Top Secret documents.

I found the original and complete Operational Orders for the invasion of Iwo Jima! They cover everything from the point of the Pacific Fleet leaving Saipan to the capture of the island.

It's an incredible document! And here I was just expecting to find an old Playboy!

It makes me wonder... have you ever found anything your parents were hiding from you?

from my grandparents... I sneaked into this room in Argentina with lots of their documents, it has lots of basically "relics" that should be in museums, they even have a carving they made out of a pyramid (a part of a wall). I was surprised to find first some nazi documents (it had the little symbol on the top, and it was around 15 pages), and then I started searching more and found a freaking torah in addition to the jewish hat (sorry i dont know how to pronounce it in English).. Then I asked them what I had seen and they told me that they were sorry they didn't tell me, even though my parents knew; my mother was Jewish and my grandfather was a Nazi, they met, they fell in love and later on fled away to ARgentina. I was amazed. and myu grandmother told me she was mongol. that was the cherry on top of the cake.

Yes.

It was in my grandmother's thing which came to me after both parents had died. Letters from the authors Jack London and and Herman Melville to my grandfather and great grandfather respectively. Also a deed that says I own what is now a State Park (dated 1845).

First, what are you planning on doing with the documents you found? Have you contacted the Navy about their disposal? With the advent of the "Homeland Security Act", I'd be concerned.

Next, yes, I did. My father never threw anything away, and I do mean anything. I was looking through his desk one day - I was about 12 - just hunting for more staples when I found two very small address/date books from around the time my sister and I had been born. Looking through them, I found two names I'd never heard before: one was my father's best friend's name plus our last name, and one was my maternal grandfather's name plus our last name. When I asked him about it, he quickly took me aside and told me never to talk with my mother about them. They were my brothers, and my mother still cannot talk about them.

I was the oldest, next came one brother who died at birth, and then another brother who died prior to birth. My sister was their last child; Mom had to have a hysterectomy when she was born.

I've often wondered what life would have been like with two brothers, but I will always be thankful to my parents for the life we did have.

My dad once left a porn magazine in the bathroom. I confronted him, and I've never seen any evidence of porn use since.

I also found a box of smokes in his jacket (his cell phone was ringing and he was in the shower, so I had to answer it), after he promised to quit. I confronted him again. He gave the smokes to his class.

TOP SECRET means not even you should be in these papers. I you make it a habit then you might have a problem. Do not snoop through your parents stuff because you might find out that you are adopted. And as for if I ever snooped in my parents stuff. NO I never snooped in other peoples things.

I opened a box and found a really cool ball. It was transparent and floppy.

It turned out to be a breast implant!
