I'm trying to run a sub 15 minute 5k, I feel like i'm capable but i get a mental block or something before races and in the first mile of the race that inhibits my performance.

That's a pretty ambitious goal. About a 4:50 pace. Start out by doing intervals, making sure you can do 3+ sub-4:50 miles with a short break in between. Then work up to 9:40 or better for 2 miles. Then slowly work your way up to 5k at the same pace.

WOW! Its amazing that ur capable of doing that. I run cross country and the races are 5K (3.1 miles). At the beginning of the race I just forget about everything and just run as fast as I can. But then again, my times around 18:30. I think if you dont even think about the race and just run, then ur practice and hardwork will pay off.

You can probably do it, you just have to practice a lot.
