-x/3-5=2x

Needs parentheses!

As written, this is the same as:

(-x/3) -5 =2x

-5 = (7/3)x

-5(3/7)=x

-15/7=x

Check:

-(-15/7)/3 -5 = 2(-15/7)
-(-5/7) -( 35/7) = -30/7
5/7 - (35/7)= 30/7
30/7 = 30/7
Done.

First you add X/3 to both side of the equatiuon, so that

-5=2x+x/3

Multiply both side by three yields

-15=6x+x

Which simplifies to

-15=7x

Therefore

x=-15/7

Multiply both sides by 3:
-x-15=6x

Add x from both sides:
7x=-15

Divide 7 from both sides:
x=-15/7

Check:
-(-15/7)/3-5=2(-15/7)
15/21-105/21=-30/7
-90/21=-30/7
-30/7=-30/7

The correct answer would be -15/7.

first, multiply everything by 3 to get -x-15=6x.
next, add 1x to each side to get -15=7x.
last, divide both sides by 7 and the answer will be -15/7.
