I mean a movie that's kind of sad or depressing. A movie that you sit in front of the TV with a box of tissues for 2 hours.

The finest chickflick ever (according to them; I wouldn't know) is the 1957 An Affair to Remember.

In response to another answer: The 1934 (Colbert) version is far superior to the 1957 (Turner). It was also possibly the first US film to address seriously questions of race.

From a guy pov, the best such film is Kazan's 1961 Splendor in the Grass. Natalie Wood, and also Warren Beatty's debut.

I know some good movies that are funny and sad; "Never Been Kissed", "Bruce Almighty" and "Click". All 3 of them moved me from laughing till i cried to crying for real. I think the ability for a single movie to make people experience such range of emotion in 2 hours is sheer genius.

I never cry during movies but the one movie I was bawling at towards the end was Finding Neverland with Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore. It's so good and so sad.

Imitation of Life There are 2 versions one from around the 1930's with Claudette Colbert and one with Lana Turter around 1960. If this don't make you cry nothing will.
